About

This is an application showing the mountain railways in Switzerland including cablecars, gondolas, chairlifts, funiculars, rack and adhesion railways. The main data source is the public transport timetables dataset distributed by opentransportdata.swiss portal. The data from OpenStreetMap was used to draw the stations and service lines on the map.

Known Issues

• Many transport agencies are not publishing the timetables as open-data (i.e. Flims-Laax region + most of the private cablecars in central Switzerland) therefore a manual process is needed to add the missing services. Please contact me for reporting any errors or missing data in the application.
• The mobile devices are supported however the map user interface is optimized for tablets and large screens(> 768px wide).
• The map is best viewed in a modern browser, check Mapbox's browser support page for more information.

Technologies & Acknowledgements

• The website has static HTML content displayed using Bootstrap and it's powered by Mapbox GL JS for rendering the dynamic map.
• Map tiles and layers are delivered from WMTS and vector tiles services offered by Swisstopo via the GeoAdmin APIs.
